PDF to flashcards
Turn your PDF into flashcards, then practise recall
Keep the explanation and the recall practice together. Add a PDF chapter or slide deck to your course, then generate flashcards from its summary. Flip a card, check your answer and come back to the ideas you missed.
- Chapter or slide PDFs
- Question-and-answer cards
- Revisit missed cards

From a definition to a recall check
Example with sample content.
Sample PDF concept
Opportunity cost is the value of the next best alternative forgone when a choice is made.
Flashcard
Question: What is the opportunity cost of a choice? Answer: The value of the next best alternative you give up.
Apply it: what do you give up when you spend an hour revising economics instead of statistics?
How it works
Select a step to see what happens in it.
- A PDF chapter, reading or set of lecture slides.
- The pages for the topic you want to remember.
- A destination section and Flashcards selected in Add content.
Example with sample content
Try it
Flip a sample card after trying to recall the answer, then mark how you did.
This example runs in your browser on made-up course content. It does not use your data or AI.

What you add, what you get
You add
- A PDF chapter, reading or set of lecture slides.
- The pages for the topic you want to remember.
- A destination section and Flashcards selected in Add content.
You get
- Question-and-answer cards from the prepared section.
- A chance to recall before revealing the answer.
- Test mode and a way to revisit cards you missed.
What makes it different
- The explanation stays nearbyReturn to the summary when a card reveals a gap rather than memorise an isolated answer.
- A manageable sourceChoose a chapter or assigned pages so your cards belong to a clear topic, not an unrelated collection of facts.
- Recall, then feedbackThe answer stays hidden until you flip it, so each card can be a recall check rather than another line to reread.
Examo vs a general AI chat
| Topic | Examo | A general AI chat |
|---|---|---|
| Organisation | A deck per section, following your course weeks. | One list per chat, unless you split it yourself. |
| Figures | Figures from your own material on the cards that need them. | Text cards, unless you add images yourself. |
| Testing | Test mode sorts cards into right and wrong piles. | You copy the cards into another app to test yourself. |
| Going deeper | Open any card for a full explanation. | Ask again in the chat. |
Examo as it works today. General AI chat apps differ, and many can do more with careful prompts.
Good to know
- Cards are made by Examo; you can't edit single cards or add your own yet.
- There is no spaced-repetition schedule. Test mode sorts cards into piles and you choose which to study.
- Right and wrong piles are kept in the browser you study in.

Start for freeQuestions
How do I turn a PDF into flashcards?
Upload the PDF, select its pages and choose Flashcards in Add content. The summary is prepared first, then used to make the cards.
Can I use lecture slide PDFs?
Yes. Add a lecture deck to its course section just like a reading or textbook chapter.
Do I upload the PDF again for questions?
No. Once the material is prepared in your course, generate practice questions from the saved section within your allowance.
Does Examo automatically schedule spaced repetition?
This workflow offers recall practice, test mode and a way to revisit missed cards. It does not promise an automatic spaced-repetition schedule.
